Alastair successfully completed a motorbike trip on his newly acquired Suzuki DR 650.
Alastair rode the bike from Auckland down to Omaru in the South Island on the open road and then journeyed three days across a mixture of gravel roads, tracks and trails, across mountains and valleys to Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand.
The destinations were connected by gravel roads and hard-based farm tracks, which resulted in long days, big views and even bigger country as the bike cut through the little known Strath Taieri region of inland Otago.
The Suzuki took Alastair over high mountain tracks, overlooking huge gold mining operations and venture well off the beaten track to little known hamlets. He cut through southern forests, historic hydro villages and followed the Dunstan Trail to Central Otago on old wagon trails. The final day witnessed the fruit bowl of Earnscleugh and ventured up into the High Country on tracks used only by shepherds and their merinos towards the tourist Mecca of Queenstown and a chance to unwind on beautiful Lake Wakatipu.
Alastair had a great time and recommends these kinds of trip to any bike fans. He is back in UK at the beginning of April before heading off to the States on a motorbike trip on 13 May for a week’s adventure in the Wild West with eaglerider.com with a couple of days tacked on experience Death Valley.
