Alastair fondly describes how he picked the Daimler Majestic Major after deciding he wanted “a contrarian car”.
“We wanted to take part in the Lands End to John O Groats,LeJog, rally which runs on the tiniest roads in Britain. So I rang my friend Anthony and together we sought out the most unsuitable car we could. And the longest and heaviest car we could find was the Daimler Majestic Major."
In 1992 Alastair took part in the Monte Carlo Challenge rally with the Daimler Majestic Major [pictured below]. They chose from the optional starting places and began the trip in Berlin. They were leading the rally until the final stage when some miscalculations with the navigation meant that they finished 4th overall. Alastair still walked away with 1st prize for his class, 4th position overall and a prize for ‘Against All Odds’ as they fearlessly took on the snow and ice in this unsuitable car.
